Covid-19

On February 22, 2022, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Iqaluit council enacted Bylaw 931 Access to Council Chambers, Council Committee Meetings and Municipal Buildings During the COVID-19 Pandemic that mandate vaccines to reduce hazards relating to the COVID-19 virus.

With the Government of Nunavut’s recent announcement of lifting the Public Health emergency restrictions, the City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents of changes to the above bylaw that affects vaccination and mask mandates that are implemented within municipal buildings.

Iqaluit City Council voted to amend Bylaw #931, removing the proof of vaccination requirement for the public while including a requirement for the public, and City staff, to wear masks within municipal buildings. The amendment will be presented at the April 27, 2022 City Council meeting.

The City will require all residents to wear a mask in public or common spaces within municipal buildings. This does not apply within playing surfaces where activity and play are taking place (ie: swimming pool, fitness area etc.)

We would like to thank all residents for their ongoing collaboration to adhering to these guidelines and as we adjust to living with the COVID-19 virus now that we have a greater understanding of how to protect ourselves.

Iqaluit City Council has agreed to review these mandates again on the May 24, 2022 City Council meeting.
