The City of Iqaluit continues to work closely with the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Health to monitor and respond as needed to the COVID-19 situation. 

The City of Iqaluit continues to take action in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. To prevent the risk of infection the City is:

  • working closely with the Government of Nunavut Department of Health:
  • asking visitors to delay non-essential travel to Iqaluit;
  • closing recreation facilities and programs;
  • restricting access to city workplaces;
  • cancelling all non-essential business travel for staff;
  • increasing cleaning measures in all City facilities, with a focus on disinfecting surfaces and touch points;
  • increasing signage to create awareness of hand washing and disease prevention in all facilities.

City Services

All City offices and buildings are closed to the public until further notice.

Essential municipal services will maintain operations. This includes water and sewer delivery, garbage roadside pickup, municipal landfill, road maintenance, municipal enforcement and fire and ambulance emergency services.

To report an urgent water issue such as a city water main leak or no water pressure, a lost dog, or a by-law concern, please call the 24-hour City Dispatch line at 979-5650.

Making Payments

The City is unable to process credit payments at this time: this applies to anyone who may have given their credit cards details to the City previously. No credit card transactions will be processed until further notice.

The City of Iqaluit encourages its residents to make Tax, Water, Land Lease and other payments online, via their online banking. Payments can also be made by cheque, mailed to Box 460, Iqaluit, NU X0A 0H0.

Municipal Enforcement

To report violations of current Public Health Orders, or complaints of social gatherings in home dwellings, the public is asked to contact the RCMP at 979-1111. The RCMP will work with the appropriate enforcement agency to address the concern.  

The City is supporting the Territorial State of Emergency.   Municipal Enforcement Peace Officers will support CPHO public health orders with education, compliance to certain public health orders, issuing a violation, and the closure of a non-essential business.

Recreation Facilities

The Makkuttukkuvik Youth Centre, Elder’s Qammaq, municipal parks, City playgrounds, and arenas are closed until further notice. Contact Recreation@iqaluit.ca, or call 979-5611 for more information on rebooking rentals or seeking information on credits and refunds. Recreation voicemails and emails will be monitored weekly.

The Iqaluit Aquatic Centre is closed until further notice.
