The City of Iqaluit is looking for an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator with exceptional leadership skills to be the Lead Hand of the heavy equipment team!

Reporting to the Roads Foreman, this position is responsible for supervising the Heavy Equipment Operators crew. As the Lead Hand, you will ensure the safe and efficient delivery of municipal road service, and carry out the heavy equipment operational requirements for development and maintenance of the municipal road system.
This position requires dependability to work days, evenings, some weekends, as well as, being on call when required. This position may be subject to a shift rotation between day and night shifts.
Journeyman Heavy Equipment Operator’s Certificate
Class 3 License with Airbrake Endorsement
Three years’ experience operating heavy equipment with knowledge/aptitude for maintenance
Minimum one year experience supervising Heavy Equipment Operators or the demonstrated ability to supervise
Proven leadership skills
Reliable for daily work and required overtime
Assets include the ability to speak and write in both English and Inuktitut, and northern experience. Equivalencies that include a combination of education and experience may be considered.
Heavy Equipment Operator Certificate and Driver’s License are required at time of application. The successful candidate would be required to submit a Criminal Record Check, as well as an acceptable Driver’s Abstract.
