Under the direction of the Operations Superintendent General Operations, the incumbent will be responsible for the leadership, management and supervision of all staff, resources and inventories within the vehicle maintenance unit. The Foreman is responsible to effectively and efficiently supervise the development and direction of the service team by planning, scheduling, performing, directing, and evaluating the repair and servicing of equipment.
The Garage Foreman’s responsibilities will also include the assurance of accurate parts control, and sourcing with the assistance from the Purchasing Department, in order to purchase any necessary parts to complete repairs, and so knowledge of repair procedures and basic computer software is necessary.
They must provide accurate estimates of repair costs, inspect shop facilities to ensure safety and efficiency, and inspect work while it is being done and after it is completed. Considerable independent judgment and action are expected to be exercised in performing the work.
Interprovincial Standard Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Technician and or a minimum Interprovincial Standards Red Seal Automotive Service Technician
Post-secondary diploma or degree in a mechancial/technical field preferred
Minimum 5 years' supervisory or foreman experience in a similar position with demonstrated motivating, training, appraising and general supervisory skills with proven leadership abilites
Five years progressively responsibile experience at the journeyman level
Valid Class 3 License with Air Brake Endorsement
Strong technical and mechanical abilities with experience in routine maintenance operations
Advanced knowledge of automotive diagnositics, repair and maintenance processes
Excellent human resource management skills
Must possess strong communication, organizational and managment skills
Must have a strong understanding of computer systems
Ability to supervise staff in the safe handling of multiple pieces of municipal equipment and vehicles
Ability to plan, coordinate and prioritze several projects simultaneously
Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts
Ability to maintain emotional control in stressful situations
Ability to speak Inuktitut
Equivalencies that include a combination of education and experience may be considered.
All relevant certifications are required at time of application. The successful candidate would be required to submit a Criminal Record Check, as well as, an acceptable Driver’s Abstract.
