Apex Cemetery construction begins, closed August to September

The City of Iqaluit is undertaking work to remediate the Cemetery located in Apex. A contractor will be working on site from August 4 to mid September. The intent of the work is to improve drainage on the site.

The Cemetery will be closed to the public from August 4 – mid-September. Any new burials during the construction season will be accommodated and work will stop during funerals/burials. Heavy equipment will be on site, any work near existing graves will be done carefully with hand tools.

The City has previously requested that in preparation of site construction for the Apex Cemetery remediation project, that residents to collect personal and memorial items by July 26, 2021.

Residents who still have items on the gravesites are asked to remove them as soon as possible. City staff will remove any items left on the graves. Once construction is complete the items can be returned.
