Blast Notification - Aqqusariaq (Nunavut Recovery Center)
September 27, 2023 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

Work has begun on Aqqusariaq (the Nunavut Recovery Centre) and blasting will be required. Drilling and blasting operations will be happening daily, between 8:30 am and 6:30 pm, starting Thursday September 28th. Blasting and drilling will continue until Thursday, October 12th.

The construction site for Aqqusariaq is located across the road from the Arctic Winter Games Arena, and the blast safety radius is 50 meters. For additional safety, blast mattresses will be used. Notices are placed on signs surrounding the site.

5 minutes before the blast, all employees working in the area will relocate to the muster point for a head count verification by the lead patroller. Patrollers will be stationed at all blast site entry points to prevent access to areas within the 50m blast radius.

Airport operations will also be notified at this time.

15 seconds before the blast, 12 short siren sounds will be sound, followed by one long siren sound.

After the blast, the blaster will verify the blast result and if all is secure, he will sound one long siren and re-open the project area to all workers. A call will then be made to NASL, airport operations to confirm blast execution was successful and complete.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work to complete our project safely and efficiently.
