City to Raise Pride Flag

June 24th, 2020 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

Passed by a unanimous Council motion at the June 24th Council meeting, the City of Iqaluit will be raising the Pride flag at City Hall for one week starting on June 24th, 2020.

Council also passed by unanimous motion to add the annual raising of the pride flag to the City’s Flag Protocol Policy, which means the flag will be raised in June each year for one week without the need for a motion each year.

The raising of the pride flag, or rainbow flag, brings Iqalummiut together to celebrate inclusivity and is a symbol of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Queer (LGBTQ) pride and LGBTQ social movements.

The City recognizes that this is a challenging time for many in the community, and while people cannot gather in large groups during COVID-19, Iqalummiut can continue to connect and support each other to share this important moment.
