Community Clean-up on June 19th

June 12, 2020 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

 

The City is pleased to announce that the annual community clean up will take place on Friday, June 19th, 2020, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. We encourage all residents, businesses and visitors to spend the day outdoors and assist in cleaning up our beautiful community.   

Bags, gloves, and other supplies will be available for pickup starting at 8:30 AM outside the following locations across the City:

• City Hall Arnaitok Arena
• Iqaluit Centennial Library
• Abe Opik Hall in Apex
• Arctic Winter Games Arena
• Iqaluit Masjid Mosque in Road to Nowhere
   

Due to COVID-19, the City has created solutions to ensure that proper social distancing and sanitation measures are in effect. However, that means we are not able to host a BBQ this year. To celebrate remotely, there will be a social media photo submission with a draw for prizes to begin on Friday, June 19th and end on Saturday, June 20th. More information will be provided on the City of Iqaluit Facebook page.

All participants are to wear gloves supplied by the City and to adhere to the social distancing protocols that are in place by the Government of Nunavut. We recommend that you wear a mask when social distancing may not be possible.

Please tie off and leave filled garbage bags on roadsides. City staff will conduct bag pick-ups throughout the day.

We are requesting that governments and other organizations allow their employees time away from work for a half day to be able to participate at the community clean up.

The Community Clean up Team would like to thank residents, organizations and sponsors in advance for your assistance and support with this event.

In the case of insufficient weather, there is an alternative date scheduled for Friday, June 26th, 2020.
