COVID-19 and City of Iqaluit
Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB)
April 3rd, 2020 – (IQALUIT, NUNAVUT) – The City of Iqaluit’s first priority is its staff and residents.
The City of Iqaluit continues to work closely with the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Health to monitor and respond as needed to the COVID-19 situation.
The Canada Emergency Response Benefit provides temporary income support to workers who have stopped working and are without employment or self-employment income for reasons related to COVID-19. The CERB provides $500 a week for up to 16-weeks.
This benefit will be available for workers who meet the following criterial:
- Residing in Canada, who are at least 15 years old;
- Who have stopped working because of COVID-19, and have not voluntarily quit their job;
- Has made $5000 in income in 2019, or in the 12 months prior to their application date;
- Who are expected to be without employment, or self-employment, for at least 14 consecutive days in the initial 4-week period.
This benefit is available from March 15, 2020 to October 03, 2020, and CRA will start accepting applications on April 06, 2020. CRA asks for applicants to apply based on birth month as follows:
January – February – March (Mondays, starting April 06, 2020)
April – May – June (Tuesdays, starting April 07, 2020)
July – August – September (Wednesdays, starting April 08, 2020)
October – November – December (Thursdays, starting April 09, 2020)
Any Month (Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays)
Please note you can unable to receive this benefit if you are already receiving Employment Insurance (EI) Benefits unless you were eligible to EI benefits that started before March 15, 2020 and these benefits end before October 03, 2020.
