Honouring National Aboriginal Veterans Day
November 8, 2024 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

On this National Aboriginal Veterans Day, the City of Iqaluit remembers and honours the Indigenous Peoples who have served in times of war and peace—from the War of 1812 to Afghanistan—and those who continue to serve today.

We recognize the significant contributions of Inuit, First Nations, and Métis veterans in defending our freedoms and protecting our way of life. Their courage, resilience, and dedication reflect the values of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ)—principles such as Piliriqatigiinniq (working together for a common purpose), Avatittinnik Kamatsiarniq (respect and care for the environment and community), and Qanuqtuurniq (being resourceful and innovative). These values have guided Inuit throughout history and continue to inspire their service and sacrifice.

Let us take this day to reflect on their contributions, honour their legacy, and ensure their stories are remembered and shared for generations to come.

Lest we forget.
