IQALUIT FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDS

TO BOAT FIRE  

AUGUST 14, 2019 (IQALUIT, Nunavut) – The City of Iqaluit Fire Department responded to a boat fire on August 14, 2019.

The Fire Department responded to a boat on fire at approximately 3:00 AM at the beach. The Fire Department arrived on scene and started initial suppression to knock down the fire. By 5:30 AM, the Fire Department extinguished the fire using 11 firefighters and 1 fire engine. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by RCMP.

The Iqaluit Fire Department would like to thank City of Iqaluit Truck Services for assistance with water and dispatchers, volunteers, the junior firefighters, the RCMP and the Office of the Fire Marshal for their help on this incident. 

Mayor Redfern continues to urge residents to be fire safe. “Please pay attention to your property and neighbourhood to ensure you are properly safe from all fire hazards, please call the RCMP for any suspicious activities”
