SEWAGE LIFT STATION 1 NOW OPERATIONAL

The City would like to inform residents that sewage Lift Station 1 is now operational, and the facility has once again begun to operate at full capacity, effective Monday, April 29, 2019.
Due to a blockage in the system that mainly consisted of old rags, plastic bags, grease and other assorted plumbing and household items, the Lift Station shut-down operations on March 28th, and temporarily diverted sewage to Koojesse Inlet.
Work began immediately to address the issue. On Friday, April 19th, the City purchased a specialized piece of equipment, and had it delivered in Iqaluit. The high-efficiency vacuum was able to clear the debris, that was hindering the Lift Station’s ability to operate.
The City will be continuously monitoring the situation, and will take any remedial action that may be required.
To prevent future blockages, the City would like to remind residents to only flush toilet paper down toilets, and avoid all other items such as baby wipes, diapers, rags, feminine hygiene products and grease.
The City thanks you for your cooperation.
