Snowmobile Safety Alert Near Lake Geraldine
March 26, 2024 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City urges all snowmobilers to exercise caution when travelling northeast of Lake Geraldine (See Attached Map) until the end of the snowmobiling or winter season. Recent boring and drilling activities involving an excavator have created unexpected ruts in the snow which may not be visible due to current overcast weather conditions, leading to a "white out" situation where visibility is significantly reduced.

For your safety, please:
• Reduce speed in the affected area.
• Stay alert for markers, but do not rely solely on them.
• Consider using alternative routes if possible.
• Follow all posted safety guidelines and signals.

The City is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents and visitors enjoying winter activities. We are working diligently to mark hazardous areas more clearly and will keep the public updated on the situation.

Please share this message with fellow snowmobilers. Stay safe and enjoy the beauty of our winter landscape responsibly.
