Update on Cabin Construction
September 20, 2022 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
The City is providing an update on cabin construction, as per council motion #20-339, which directed City staff to conduct background research, consultation and implementation of a Cabin Policy.
Residents are advised that at this time, all cabin construction on Municipal Lands is unauthorized until the City finalizes cabin regulations and establishes a process for cabin approvals.
The City is determining options to regulate cabin development on Municipal Lands. The community will have an opportunity to provide feedback prior to any decision taken by Council when these decisions are ready.
City Staff will be attending the Nunavut Trade Show at the AWG Arena on September 22nd to conduct outreach on the Cabin Policy. A Cabin Policy survey is also planned for October. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to the mailing list to be notified when the survey opens.
Residents seeking permits to construct cabins, may explore opportunities on Federal Lands or Inuit Owned Lands.
