Vehicle lights
September 21, 2023 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
As the summer comes to an end, the colder dark months approach, the City of Iqaluit Municipal Enforcement Department would like to remind motorists that headlights and taillights must be turned on during hours of darkness or inclement weather.
An increase in motorists have been observed driving at night with only their lower lit, daytime running lights activated and no tail lights.
Most modern vehicles have auto mode on their headlights that come on at dark and off in daytime, but this mode needs to be selected on your headlight switch.
The use of your headlights and taillights are required by Territorial and Municipal law when the conditions exist, if your lights are not on, motorists are subject to a fine of $100.00
Additionally the use of auxiliary lights on a motor vehicle are only permitted to be activated when operating on a municipal roadway when mounted below the factory headlights.
Please keep yourself and everyone else safe by checking your vehicle lights prior to operating your vehicle every time.
