Volunteer Appreciation Awards
December 07, 2022 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
The Recreation Department held the 2022 Outstanding Volunteer Awards ceremony on November 30th at the Elders Qammaq. We hold this annual event to honour the incredible contribution that Iqaluit’s community volunteers play in developing a rich community where residents can thrive. This year we had a group of amazing volunteers whose names were put forward. While we think that all nominees are incredibly deserving, there are a few that stood out above the rest.
This year’s winners are:
• Corey Skinner - Outstanding Volunteer in Sport and Recreation
• Pits Alainga - Outstanding Volunteer in Arts and Culture
• Akutaq Williamson-Bathory - Outstanding Youth Volunteer
• Jenni Bell - Outstanding Volunteer in Community Development
• Seané D'Argencourt Printup - The Great Helper Award
This year, the Recreation Department also distributed Outstanding Volunteer awards to those who went above-and-beyond for the community during last fall’s water emergency. Their selflessness and support for the community helped all of us get through one of the most challenging times this community has faced. These individuals are:
• Janet Brewster
• Mike Salomonie
• Sherri Robertson
• Sean Clark
• Joey Murdoch-Flowers
• Joe Juralak
• Julia Roberts
• Nadia Ciccone
And, an extra special acknowledgment to Andrea Andersen for her work organizing the Go Fund Me campaign, and all of the incredible work that she took on to help this community.
The Recreation Department would like to acknowledge the following organizations and individuals for their assistance and support during this difficult time:
• CANaps
• NCC
• Black Heart Café
• Grind & Brew
• Yummy Shawarma
• Arctic Co-op
• Baffinland
• Agnico Eagle
• KhalsaAid
• VIO Volunteers
• Raytheon
• Mike Wilkins
• Chris Braund
• Tara Braund
• Hilary Casey
• Kailey Arreak
Your contributions to the community during this time were immeasurable and we want to extend our sincerest appreciation. We know that so many individuals in this community share of their time, and we are grateful for the skills, energy and support everyone shares with our city.
