COVID-19 and City of Iqaluit Update
June 26th, 2020 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
The City of Iqaluit’s first priority is its staff and residents.
The City of Iqaluit offices are reopening to the public starting on July 2nd. The City Hall, in the Arnaitok Complex, and Building #2425, will be offering front counter services to allow the public to pay utility bills, taxes and tickets and conduct other city business in-person once again.
The City Hall will be open to the public from 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 5pm. The City Hall will be open for Elders and those with special requirements from 9am to 10am Monday to Friday for the month of July.
As part of the COVID-19 measures to help prevent the potential spread of infection, plexi-glass barriers have been installed at service counters and floor markers will help maintain distancing requirements of 2 metres. City facilities are also equipped with hand sanitizer. Visitors will not be permitted in City facilities if they show any symptoms associated with COVID-19.
Residents and businesses are still encouraged to conduct business online or by phone. For assistance with payments, please contact the City Finance Department at the following numbers:
Utilities 979-5665 or 979-5606
Property Taxes & Land lease 979-5602 & 979-5606
Request for information can also be sent to the following email address: Accountsreceivable@Iqaluit.ca.
City Council meetings will be held in council chambers starting Tuesday, July 14th, however only councillors and support staff will be permitted to attend in person. Distancing measures will be in effect. The public is welcome to listen to the meetings via live stream at:
The Arnaitok Arena continues to remain closed to the public.
The Aquatic Centre will be reopening on Friday, July 10th, at 6:30am. The facility has instituted a series of COVID-19 precautions, which means the facility and its programs will be reopening in phases. Phase 1 will commence Friday, July 10th and will include the reopening of the lap pool for Lane Swim only. The Pita Shack Restaurant will also be open for take-out only.
Phase 2 will start on Monday, July 20th and will include the reopening of the Fitness Centre for solo workouts only. Drop-in classes and pre-registered programs will not be available. Lane Swim only will continue in the lap pool.
The Hot Tub and Sauna remain closed at this time, based on recommendations from the CPHO.
Family and Public Swims will be reopening in Phases 3 and 4, at a date to be determined.
The Aquatic Centre wants to provide a safe environment and an enjoyable experience for everyone. We will do this by providing pre-booked one-hour sessions for both Phase 1 and Phase 2.
We have created an online portal to make reservations and payments easier for everyone. It is required to create a free Max Galaxy Account and reserve online at: https://cityofiqaluitrecreation.maxgalaxycanada.net/BrowseActivities.aspx
Annual pass holders, please ensure that you sign in with your online login information. If you do not have a login, one will be provided to you by email on Friday, June 26th from Guest Services.
Reservations will open every Sunday at 12pm for the community and 11am for annual pass holders. Reserving your session will allow the facility to maintain our limited capacity. Limiting our capacity helps with physical distancing and prevents the spread of COVID-19.
There will be 64 one-hour sessions available starting from Monday 6:30am to Sunday closing. At this time, you will be able to reserve a maximum of five (5) sessions for the following week, once per day. For example, for the sessions starting on Friday, July 10th, the sessions will be available for reservation on Sunday, July 5th.
Drop-in fees will apply for all guests who are not currently annual pass holders. There will be no refunds on missed sessions and no walks-in are available. If you have any questions, please call Guest Services at 867-975 8544 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
