CITY ANNOUNCES FEDERAL ROAD UPGRADE
MAY 14, 2018 (IQALUIT, NUNAVUT) – Iqaluit Mayor Madeleine Redfern and Council are pleased to announce that a Federal Road upgrade will begin May 21, 2018.
“Paving this area of Federal Road will improve drivability, reduce annual maintenance costs, as well as help enhance a positive image of the City, especially for visitors arriving from our international airport,” said Mayor Redfern.

REMINDER TO USE MARKED SNOWMOBILE TRAILS
MAY 9, 2018 (IQALUIT, NUNAVUT) –- The City would like to remind snowmobilers to please use only snowmobile trails that are clearly marked, as outlined on the attached snowmobile trail map.
As indicated in City By-Law 557, snowmobilers are required to be considerate and respectful of other residents and private property. Failure to comply could lead to fines up to $200.
The City would like to thank snowmobilers for their support and understanding.

MAY 7, 2018 (IQALUIT, NUNAVUT) –- “Be Emergency Ready” is this year’s national theme for Emergency Preparedness Week, which runs from May 6 to the 12th, 2018. This week is a reminder to residents that by planning and taking  actions to be prepared, families and property can be better protected during an emergency.

REMINDER FOR CARDBOARD PICK-UP
MAY 4, 2018 (IQALUIT, NUNAVUT) - The City would like to remind residents that, to help facilitate the collection and disposal of cardboard, please ensure that cardboard products are kept separate from other waste products in the collection bins. Other types of packing material, such as plastic or styrofoam, should be separated out, and included with items intended for garbage pick-up.
To assist City staff, as well as help with access and storage, please ensure to remove snow from around and inside bins.

APRIL 11, 2018 (IQALUIT, NUNAVUT) – The City would like to remind property owners and property managers that, as stated in Municipal Bylaw 591, they are responsible for removing snow and ice either to the rear of parking areas, or from parking areas, to ensure that roadways remain clear for servicing and emergency services access.

MARCH 16, 2018 (IQALUIT, NUNAVUT) –- The City is encouraging residents to use the recent daylight savings time change as a reminder to not only check the batteries in their smoke alarms, but to also check the date of installation, and replace units every ten years.
As most fatal fires occur at night, ensuring that equipment is operating correctly can help to save lives.
Be sure to install smoke alarms on every floor of a home, as well as in bedrooms, hallways that lead to sleeping areas, and basements.

MARCH 16, 2018 (IQALUIT, NUNAVUT) - The City would like to remind residents to please adjust their driving to accommodate spring road conditions.
When the weather warms up, and the sun intensifies, roads can become icy, and are more slippery to drive on.
Please use caution, and drive carefully and appropriately for current road conditions.
