Burn Permit Reminder for Open Flame Outdoor Fires
June 10, 2024 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
The City of Iqaluit would like to remind residents that a burn permit is required for any open-flame outdoor fires.
Permit Application Process:
- Submission: Residents must complete and submit a burn permit application to Dispatch at dispatch@iqaluit.ca before starting a fire.
- Approval: Residents must wait to receive the approved burn permit back from Dispatch before having a fire.
Application Access:
- The burn permit application can be found on the City of Iqaluit website: Emergency Services Department.
Permit Specifics:
- The burn permit applies only to open flame fires, such as bonfires and fire pits. Coleman stoves or lamps do not require a permit.
- Only wood is permitted for burning. Burning tires, mattresses, or other non-wood materials is strictly prohibited.
Compliance:
- If a fire is reported and no permit has been obtained, residents will be asked to extinguish the fire and will be informed about the permit requirement.
- Residents may be charged for any fire department response and extinguishment required.
