City invites input on development permit applications

The City of Iqaluit invites residents’ input into projects, policies and initiatives that grow our community and prepare our city for the future. The City is currently looking for interested residents to provide public consultation input for Development Permit application #20-062.

On March 16th 2021, the Planning & Development Committee of the Whole recommended to Council that a Public Consultation process be initiated for Development Permit application #20-062. The Uquutaq Society has submitted DP 20-062 to amend DP 05-024 in order to increase the intensity of the existing use from 20 to 42 beds, for both men and women, and to facilitate some internal renovations. This facility at building #778 in the Core Area will be used as an overnight respite program (low barrier shelter), which means that both intoxicated and sober people, men and women, may use the shelter. The proposed change will reduce the existing barriers to entry. There will be three staff on-site.

During the public consultation process, information will be circulated through canvassing in the
local area, posters in public spaces, radio, the City website, and social media. Digital information packages are available on the City of Iqaluit website under Notices.

The public consultation runs from March 30 to April 13, 2021. To submit input, ask questions or request more information, please get in touch with the Development Officer Marc Rivet at Planning@iqaluit.ca or call Community Communication Liaison Ainiak Korgak at 867-979-5603.
