City of Iqaluit to move to a new City Hall
The City of Iqaluit is excited to announce that City offices and council chambers are moving to a new City Hall building.
Offices currently located at 901 Nunavut Drive are moving to 1085 Mivvik Street. The move is scheduled to take place in phases during the month of February. To allow for the move of staff, in-person city business operations may be closed to the public for a short period of time. In this event, a public service announcement will be released to notify residents.
The new office space will provide modern facilities for five City of Iqaluit departments including administration, finance, corporate services, human resources and economic development.
The new City council chambers will provide an improved setting for City Council to convene meetings using an upgraded video streaming system for the public. This space will improve the experience for those attending council sessions in person by providing natural light, dedicated ventilation, acoustic and sound design, and an integrated audio-visual system for translation, interpretation and presentations.
The focus on the design was to provide City employees with spaces that would improve their daily work experience by ensuring the space is accessible and inviting. Natural light from large windows and the use of integrated colours throughout the building creates a clear identity and welcoming atmosphere. The new facility also designates public and staff zones to give more direction to visitors, with health and safety barriers installed.
“The opening of the new City Hall is a highly anticipated milestone for the City,” says Mayor Kenny Bell. “The new office space will invest in our current and future staff by ensuring staff have positive and healthy work spaces, as well as the tools they need to succeed in providing high quality services to residents.”
A public open house event to be announced when the move has been completed.
