Council Proclaims Respiratory Therapy Week in City of Iqaluit
City Council proclaims and recognizes October 25th-31st as “Respiratory Therapy Week” in the City of Iqaluit. The decision was unanimously passed with Motion 20-295 on September 22nd, 2020.
The City of Iqaluit joins the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists and other municipalities across Canada in celebrating Respiratory Therapy Week during the week of October 25th-31st, 2020.
The City would like to take this week to raise awareness of respiratory health issues and services available to Nunavummiut. At this time, Iqaluit Health Services have only two Registered Respiratory Therapists serving the Baffin Region.
Respiratory Therapists are instrumental in saving lives and work in various high-risk areas, including intensive care units, emergency departments, operating rooms, neonatal nurseries and home cases.
Respiratory therapists have also played important roles at and behind the front lines of the pandemic. They have been instrumental in preparing at every level: advising government, mobilizing supplies, designing pandemic ventilators and adjusting protocols to best function under COVID-19.
