COVID-19 and City of Iqaluit Update
April 15, 2021 – Iqaluit, Nunavut


The City of Iqaluit continues to work closely with the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Health to monitor and respond as needed to the COVID-19 situation. With a confirmed COVID-19 case in Iqaluit, as of Thursday, April 15, all non-essential businesses and services are closed. Indoor gatherings are limited to the household, meaning no visitors, except for emergencies. Outdoor gatherings are limited to five people. The Chief Public Health Officer has made masks mandatory in Iqaluit. For detailed information on public health restrictions, please visit:

City Services

All city offices are closed to the public until further notice. All payments and permitting services are closed until further notice.

Essential municipal services will maintain operations. This includes water and sewer delivery, garbage roadside pickup, municipal landfill, road maintenance, municipal enforcement and fire and ambulance emergency services.

To report an urgent water issue such as a city water main leak or no water pressure, a lost dog, or a by-law concern, please call the 24-hour City Dispatch line at 867-979-5650.

Recreation Facilities

The Makkuttukkuvik Youth Centre, Elder’s Qammaq, and all public playgrounds, municipal parks, and arenas are closed until further notice. Contact for more information.  Recreation voicemails will be monitored weekly.

Aquatic Centre

The Iqaluit Aquatic and Fitness Centre is closed until further notice.
