Day of Action Against Anti-Asian Racism
The Iqaluit City Council has proclaimed May 10, 2021 as Day of Action Against Anti-Asian Racism in Iqaluit, Nunavut.
It was passed unanimously that the City of Iqaluit have a Day of Action Against Anti-Asian Racism Proclamation at City Council Meeting on April 27, 2021.
The City of Iqaluit stands for the right that every resident in Iqaluit deserves safe public spaces without the fear of discrimination based on race, national origin, religion, sex, age, or gender.
Day of Action Against Anti-Asian Racism takes place in the month of May, which is recognized as Asian Heritage Month in Canada.
Statement from Mayor Bell:
“I encourage everyone to learn more about Asian heritage become more aware of the many rich histories that make our community. It is also an opportunity to learn more about the systemic racism embedded in our workplaces, public spaces, and education systems in Nunavut and all of Canada. I ask you to learn, speak up and support your diverse community in Iqaluit.”
