Funding Increase for Municipal Capital Block Funding and Mivvik Street Paving Project
May 17, 2024 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit is pleased to announce an increase in the Municipal Capital Block Funding (MCBF) from $5,000,000 to $9,000,000, thanks to the generous support of the Government of Nunavut. This significant funding boost will allow the City to proceed with vital infrastructure projects, including the much-anticipated repaving of a portion of Mivvik Street – which will take place this summer.

The Mivvik Street Paving Project involves the complete removal and replacement of the existing pavement and road foundation over an area of 5400 square meters. The project is valued at approximately $1,695,600 and will include comprehensive roadwork such as excavation, disposal of old materials, supply and installation of new granular subbase and base materials, and the application of a new hot mix pavement in two layers.

This project is a part of our broader commitment to improving the infrastructure within Iqaluit, ensuring safer and more reliable roadways for our residents. The enhanced funding will not only facilitate the timely completion of this project but also support other essential municipal capital infrastructure priorities.
