Household Hazardous Waste Day and Paint Exchange
March 18, 2024 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit will be hosting the annual Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Day and paint exchange on Saturday March 23, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Air Base (Building 621). This event provides residents an opportunity to safely dispose of their Household Hazardous Waste, as well as an opportunity for residents to swap paint canisters.

Household hazardous waste includes many items that people are storing in their garages, kitchens, or bathrooms and are no longer needed. Hazardous items are often toxic or flammable which means extra care should be taken when disposing of them.

The public is encouraged to take advantage of the hazardous waste collection day by coming out and safely disposing of these unwanted or unusable items.

Household items to be accepted (include but are not limited to):

Anti-freeze, Adhesives, Aerosols, Automotive and Household Batteries, Cleaners, Corrosives, Fuels, Mercury, Oxidizers, Poisons, Paint Cans and Spray Paint, Pharmaceuticals, Solvents

Items not accepted:

Electronics waste, used oil, oil filters, oil containers, tires, propane tanks, biological waste, infectious waste, radioactive waste, explosives, ammunition and industrial waste.

Residents are asked to keep the labels on the materials brought for disposal. This helps to identify the substances for proper disposal and avoids the need for testing substances.
