Hydrant Flushing and Inspection Notice
June 27, 2024 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
The City of Iqaluit would like to inform residents that the Public Works will be conducting hydrant flushing and inspections throughout the city. This work will start on Tuesday, July 2, and will be completed on Friday, July 19.
This program is necessary to remove sediment that accumulates in the water mains. It allows crews to operate, inspect, and maintain all of the fire hydrants to ensure that they are working properly.
During this process, residents may notice temporary changes in their water service, including low water pressure, discolouration, and/or cloudiness. The rust-like colour is caused by iron and other mineral deposits being stirred up and does not pose a health risk. If you experience water colour changes or cloudiness, please run cold water until it appears clear.
Water will remain safe to use and consume throughout this period.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this necessary maintenance.
