Public Service Announcement
Inclement Weather – Full City Closure
February 29, 2024 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

10:00 AM - The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents that the city is suspending services, such as water delivery, waste management and garbage pick-up, and closing city facilities to the public, until further notice, due to severe weather conditions.

The City advises residents to immediately take shelter and then stay off the roads due to reduced visibility, high winds and unsafe road conditions.

Emergency services will be provided unless it is unsafe and/or impossible to do so; delays can be expected. Please call 979-4422 for fire and ambulance services.

Residents on trucked services are asked to reduce their water consumption and waste water output.

Owners of vehicles are reminded to move their vehicles off the road. Vehicles that have been abandoned on the road and impede traffic during the snow-clearing operation may be impounded under local and territorial legislation, and the owner may be subject to a fine. The City is not responsible for any damages to vehicles, left on the road, either as a result of snow clearing operations or the removal of the vehicle.

For updates regarding the status of services, please call the blizzard line at 979-5300.

This Public Service Announcement remains in effect until further notice.
