Iqaluit Fire Department Responds to House Fire in Happy Valley

At 09:56 on December 7, 2020, Iqaluit Emergency Services were called to the Happy Valley area of Iqaluit for reports of a house on fire. The Iqaluit fire crew consisting of fourteen (14) members and seven (7) emergency service vehicles responded to scene.

On arrival, firefighters found flames already exiting a window, made quick entry into the house, and were able to keep the fire contained to the room of origin.

One occupant was taken to Qikiqtani General Hospital as a precaution.

The Office of the Fire Marshal is conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire.

Iqaluit Emergency Services would like to thank all of our community partners including Public works for providing water trucks, Bylaw officer’s, the OFM and RCMP.

Iqaluit Emergency services likes to remind all residents to check that their smoke detectors are not expired and working. Ensure that bedroom doors are closed while people are sleeping, as a closed door can help keep fire and smoke out of a bedroom and allow time to escape.
