Residential Large Item Pick-up Program
August 29, 2025 – Iqaluit, Nunavut
The City of Iqaluit is pleased to announce the return of the annual Residential Large Item Pick-up Program. From September 8 to 12, 2025, residents can take advantage of this opportunity to dispose of approved large household items at no cost.
Accepted Items:
Up to two appliances such as a washer, dryer, refrigerator, freezer, or stove
Up to three large household items (over 50 lbs and too large for a garbage bag), including:
o Furniture (e.g. couches, chairs, tables, mattresses)
o Flooring (e.g. carpets, under padding, sheet linoleum) bundled to a maximum of 1.7 m x 1 m (5 ft. x 3 ft.) – one bundle equals one item
o Plumbing fixtures (e.g. toilets)
o Windows and mirrors
Placement Guidelines:
Place your accepted items outside during your regular garbage pickup day for the week of September 8 to 12:
Items must be placed separately from regular garbage, items should be placed by the road
Sort materials into organized, unstacked piles
Remove any personal items not meant for pickup (e.g. bicycles, toys) from the area to avoid accidental collection
This program is for residential areas only. Commercial zones including the downtown core, West 40, and Federal Road are not eligible.
Residential Garbage Pickup Schedule
Monday: Core Area; Lower Iqaluit (map colour code is yellow)
Tuesday: Apex; Core Area; Tundra Valley (map colour code is blue)
Wednesday: Happy Valley, Lake Subdivision; Road to Nowhere (map colour code is orange)
Thursday: Tundra Ridge (map colour code is purple)
Friday: Plateau Subdivision (map colour code is green)
