Snow Removal

The City would like to remind property owners and property managers that, as stated in the Snow Removal Municipal By-Law 591, they are responsible for removing snow and ice either to the rear of parking areas, or from parking areas, to ensure that roadways remain clear for water and garbage servicing and emergency services access.

In addition, property owners must ensure that any snow pile within five meters of any roadway intersection is limited to one meter in height. As well, snow may only be deposited in designated areas determined by the City. Snow shall not be placed or dumped into any waterway within the City of Iqaluit.

As identified in Noise By-Law 599 and By-Law 879 Amendment, snow clearing operations shall not take place during the identified “quiet times” from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. This bylaw does not apply to emergency or enforcement vehicles engaged in the lawful execution of their duty or a person operating equipment on behalf of the City while engaged in conducting emergency utility repairs or routine snow removal and street maintenance.
