Water Update - Change of Water Source – Reverse Osmosis Water

The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents that pumping operations at the river will cease, effective Tuesday, November 9th, 2021. The colder temperatures are making pumping opera-tions at the river increasingly difficult. To continue filling trucks at the river could cause dam-age to the water truck pumps, delays in filling and delivery, and increases safety concerns.

The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) Operation LENTUS is underway at the river. The CAF has set up mobile water treatment units that treat river water by a Reverse Osmosis (RO) system. This water will be transferred to a designated City water truck, and will be made available for resi-dents at water filling depots. This water does not need to be boiled, and can be used for con-sumption including drinking, cooking and brushing your teeth.

Potable water (RO) is available at the following locations, from 11:00am - 6:00pm daily

• AWG Parking Lot
• Library Parking Lot

Depots will remain open on Remembrance Day, November 11th.

Residents are reminded to bring their own clean, food safe jugs and refillable containers. Some food safe buckets and pails may be available at each location on a first-come, first served basis.
